BARRY CRUMP’S A FRAME HUT RESTORED

In November 2013 we at Wekawilds aquired Barry Crump’s old A frame hut which  had no permanent residents since Barry and Robin lived in it :Barry and Robin built the A Frame in 1982-1983 and Barry left in (1991)

We then moved it up to wekawilds with two diggers and a Bulldozer taking eight hours for the two km journey

We had Michael Holland from T.V.N.Z from Seven sharp come up and do a story on the A frame

and after Many months of hard work and guidance from Robin we have restored to its original state.

Moving Crumpy’s Hut

“A story about an inspired Opotiki local who’s dragged Barry Crump’s A-frame out of the hills of Pakihi Vallley to restore it on his land for posterity, for everyone to see – especially those who are riding the Motu Trails – another reason to experience this beautiful region!”

Going Gangnam in the Bush

Recently we hosted 3 lovely Korean gentlemen at Weka Wilds, and they certainly showed us how to do it Gangnam style in the bush!

Inexperienced with rural camping, we had the pleasure of teaching them how to set up camp, build a campfire to cook lunch and breakfast, and after a hot days’ tramping in the bush and night hunting the local possum population they were pretty exhausted. (more…)

Pakihi Possum Run

Last weekend we took the boys and their friends from town out into the bush for a Possum run, checking traps and helping to keep the local Weka wildlife safe.

It was a stunning ‘boys day out’ with great weather and Mother Nature smiling down on us allowing us to capture some fantastic photos of the Pakihi Valley.  Check out some images in our Gallery. (more…)

Kiwi by Night

On the eve of the Motu Trails grand opening ceremony we took a walk along our driveway to see if we could find some glow worms on a clear but frosty night. To our complete surprise and utter joy we managed to capture a photo of one of the largest Kiwi birds we’d ever seen, just out for a feed no doubt! Just simply amazing and you never know who or what you may stumble across when you come to stay at Weka Wilds Accommodation in the stunning Pakihi, Opotiki.
